My Struggles as a New Mom

In the months leading up to the birth of our first son, I had it all planned out. Our baby would sleep in his crib next to our bed, I would exclusively breastfeed him and teach him how to sleep through the night. After my six weeks of maternity leave (we were living in Mexico at the time) I would go back to my awesome fulltime job as a coordinator at a local private school and our baby boy would go to the lovely daycare we had selected for him. This was what I had prepared for and what I thought our new life would be like….

When I was pregnant of our eldest, I did not know a lot about breastfeeding yet. So to prepare for our baby’s arrival, we decided to do an intensive delivery preparation course from a lovely local doula. She taught us all about the ins and outs about being pregnant, the delivery and how to pick a good obstetrician. She also taught us how to prepare for this special new time that was coming sooner than later. One of those topics was breastfeeding, as she was a lactation specialist next to being a doula. I learned things I had no clue about and soon learned that her lessons were more valuable than I could have ever imagined.
